AL-FATIHAH

My grandma passed away on the 10th of April after couple of years been bedridden from diabetic and other ilness related to old age. I & my wife started our journey from Penang to Kuala Lumpur (about 400km) right after performing our 'suboh' (dawn) prayer i.e. around 6.30am with our trusted TMax. We manage to reach Taman Melawati around 10am, just in time to perform the 'sembahyang jenazah' and for the burial.

We got a lot of comments about how crazy we were to ride that far... how only 'young' people could do that.. or to make sure once we reached home, to rub the special ointment to ensure 'urat tak masuk angin'... anyway for the younger relative, we are the 'cool couple' and the topic of conversation among us was nothing else but revolve around motorcycle scene.

Anyway, by 4pm we started to go back to Penang. Our journey back was met with heavy rain from Tg Malim until Ipoh. Fortunately with TMax, we were not much affected by the rain. The windshield and body protect us from the incoming rain. At most, we a bit of splash from other vehicles. We reached home at 9 pm.

ANOTHER OLD BIKERS

I received a sms from an old netizen. He also just bought a 150cc scooter after 10 years hasn't been on bike. The funny part is after he bought the scooter, he realised that he has forgotten how to ride!! In the end, he had to ask the dealer to send the scooter to his house, so that he could slowly re-learn how to ride it back :D

I wish him well and safe riding.

BIKING HISTORY

In 2002, after nearly 10 years I was out from biking scene, I was back again to recover from the ‘itchiness’. I bought year 1997 Yamaha Virago XV535 for RM7,700 cash. My main reason for buying this model was to get used with bigger cc bike. This model is also used by our Road Transport Department as learner bike in order to get the necessary license for above 250 cc bike.

With this XV535, I had ride as far as Melaka from Penang. That is about 1,100km to and fro in one day. I had stop taking flight to KL for a meeting, but instead ride my XV535 even it is a daily trip. I am pretty pleased with this bike.. very easy to maintain. You just make sure the engine oil and shaft oil is change when it is due. The rest just fill in petrol and off you go. No need to worry about lubricating the chain or whether coolant is enough. Being human, nothing is perfect…. If you ride above 140km/hr, the upright position will make your body tire from the strong wind and the vibration enough to shake every single bone in your body..

Sometime during the weekend or public holiday, I’ll follow a convoy from local motorcycle community to our local attraction.

Here you can see some of our beautiful scenery ie The Lake of Banding which located between Grik and Jeli.

In 2004, the need for speed in me cannot be contain anymore. This time I’d grap a 1995 Honda F3 600, a sport touring bike from one of our biking brother, known as ‘Don’ (he must have some sort of affection toward mafia!) for RM27,000 cash. The XV535 was sold for RM7,500. Not bad eh?.
